Our History.

Located deep in the South of Shropshire, 10 miles from the Welsh border, the historic Mytton Arms is home to great beer, friendly people, and a warm and wonderful atmosphere to be part of.

Our story begins in 1850, when the pub was first established. Back then, the Mytton Arms was merely the living room of a house – a common trend at the time. Fast forward over 170 years and we stand alone as the only pub in the village we call home: Habberley.

As one of the best pubs in Pontesbury, we continue to host events of all sizes throughout the years that pass, providing a hub for this tight-knit community is something we wouldn’t trade for the world. It’s not just the people of Shrewsbury, but everyone is welcome to have a drink and share the warm and friendly atmosphere that we are ever so proud of.

Our Name.

Our name comes from arguably the biggest character in the county’s history. Sir John Mytton was a politician by trade, but most know him as an eccentric hunter with a real thirst for adrenaline. His one-of-a-kind spirit, albeit toned down a little, can still be found in our pub and all that we do.

Who We Are.

At The Mytton, we do everything we can to make sure that our guests are welcome. We know the core values of what makes this pub great, hence why we bought it. Before we realised our dream of owning The Mytton, we were guests ourselves, paying a visit twice a year for summer barbecues. Although our visits were few and far between, our intentions soon became clear. As a family run business, we want to create the same sort of feeling for whoever walks through our doors; that feeling of being part of our family. We believe that the Mytton Arms is one of the best pubs in Pontesbury and we do everything we can to make our belief true, with community focused events, live music and much more.

Mytton Arms Community.

The Mytton Arms is much more than a rural pub, it’s the hub of our community. A leading pub in Pontesbury, it’s a place for locals to catch up with their neighbours and an information point for anyone who wants to learn more about the area. For all the local support we receive, whether it be supplying our food and drink, turning up to our events or even just coming in for a pint while watching the big game; we hope to repay it by making our community proud of their local pub. That’s our ultimate goal.

Phil.

As landlords and landladies have come and gone over the years, one person has outlasted them all and remained a constant at The Mytton. Phil has been coming to our pub for decades. With his loyalty, Phil is as integral as the wooden beams that keep The Mytton intact. So much so, that for the pub sign and the label of our signature ale, there was only one person we had in mind to depict the legendary Sir John Mytton. You can find Phil with his customary pint of Guinness, reliving his past through the many stories he has to tell.
